About the reviewer

Lisa Yanaky Reviewer: Lisa Yanaky I’m the site owner, editor, and reviewer. I started working on the site, originally at Diaryland.com, in March, 2003, before transferring it here in February 2004. My credentials? A few years in university for English, a year working in a bookstore, and thousands of books read in my lifetime. In case you’re curious (what book lover isn’t?), my all-time favourite book is Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie. My favourite “classic” book is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. “Hills Like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemingway wins hands down for short story, and the poetry of Leonard Cohen makes me swoon. I’ll read almost anything, though – all genres of books frolic freely on my (many) bookcases. I have a great love for Booker Prize winners/nominees, and have fallen back in love with CanLit (aka Canadian Literature) over the past few years, so I’ve been racing through Giller Prize nominees as well. I love the edge that CanLit has taken on in recent years.

My favorite authors include:

  • Salman Rushdie
  • Kate Atkinson
  • Bill Bryson
  • Marian Keyes
  • Ian McEwan
  • Charlotte Bronte
  • Chad Harbach
  • Anne Enright
  • Lauren B. Davis
  • Billie Livingston
  • Richard Wagamese
  • Angie Abdou
  • Yann Martel
  • Robertson Davies
